Altor Networks Customer, CHS, to Speak at SANS Virtualization Summit

CHS Deploys Altor VF to Ensure Compliance

Altor Networks has announced that the Director of Security at CHS will share his experience at the SANS Institute “WhatWorks in Virtualization Security” summit to be held at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington D.C. on August 17 and 18. CHS is deploying the Altor VF virtual firewall in a mission-critical production environment to ensure compliance.

CHS has developed an extensive, sophisticated IT structure with 130 servers to manage database intensive applications which support outsourced worksite health programs, national medical exams and medical readiness teams. Virtualization is being implemented to reduce costs and develop a more scalable, resilient, and manageable computing environment.

Compliance with stringent data privacy laws governing healthcare, government and financial institutions are mandatory and specific to how information such as social security numbers and health information must be protected.

“Safeguards that shield sensitive data and critical applications on the physical LANs do exist within the virtual environment but are cumbersome and not always topologically feasible to implement,” said Ryan Trost, Director of Security and Privacy Officer at CHS. “The Altor solution provided a defense-in-depth methodology to govern ingress and egress traffic to our core applications and lock down the VM traffic, akin to the strategy that security analysts audit system administrators.”

Also presenting at the summit, Amir Ben-Efraim, CEO of Altor Networks, will deliver the expert session “Securing the Virtual Data Center” sharing insight on how next generation security technologies will allow organizations to move beyond the traditional security silos and build security into the fabric of the data center.

“The dynamic nature of the virtual data center creates new challenges not encountered in securing physical networks”, said Mr. Ben-Efraim. “However, the virtual infrastructure also allows for an unprecedented level of security integration into the virtual platform.”

Summit attendees will learn how security in the virtual infrastructure differs from physical network security and the opportunities to move beyond physical limitations. Virtualization security solutions can cross the boundary between network and host security for a more powerful security policy and more accurate enforcement.

While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jim Frey, Vice President of S...
