NComputing Launches USB-Connected Virtual Desktop

The U170 plugs into a standard PC’s USB port and with vSpace, NComputing’s virtualization software

Desktop virtualization maven NComputing, which claims to have sold more virtual desktops than VMware, launched the industry's first USB-connected virtual desktop at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

The U170 plugs into a standard PC's USB port and with vSpace, NComputing's virtualization software, other users can share that PC.

The company, which expects the widgetry to push it into SOHOs and small businesses, says to kiss one man/one PC computing good-bye.

The U170 thin client taps unused computing resources to connect multiple users to one computer.

The U170 connects to the additional user's peripherals, including keyboard, monitor and mouse.

NComputing says up to nine U170s can be connected to a single PC and still provide every user with a high-definition multimedia experience.

NComputing systems start at $70 a head. The U170 will be available through NComputing's channels next month for roughly $99 a throw.
