"During a natural disaster of this scale, it is critical for corporations, individuals and governments to join forces to help those affected to overcome the disaster," said George Samenuk (pictured), chairman and CEO of McAfee, Inc, as McAfee announced its immediate support for the relief efforts of Hurricane Katrina with an initial company donation of $50,000 and also announced its intention to match funds through a global employee contribution matching program.
The McAfee Grant will be used to help support the immediate humanitarian relief efforts and will support the American Red Cross's Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund. McAfee will immediately match the total of employee donations on a one-to-one basis to the fund. McAfee is also identifying short-term needs for McAfee product donations to support emergency response and recovery efforts.
As the efforts move to the recovery stage, the company will identify additional needs for product donations to community groups, schools and/or customers that lost existing computers and networks to the disaster.
Finally, McAfee's Employee Volunteer Office Leaders are identifying volunteer needs near its largest US offices.
"We share our deepest sympathies with all of those impacted by this disaster, and we encourage our customers, partners and employees to continue the McAfee spirit of giving back to communities around the world," Samenuk said.
More information about McAfee's involvement in the community can be found at http://www.mcafeesecurity.com/us/about/corporate/community.htm.
Other technology companies who have already announced support for Katrina victim relief include, Sun, Dell, Cisco, Cingular Wireless, and DIRECTTV.
