GovIT Session at Cloud Expo
Another story about how the federal government remains wedded to primitive technology has crossed the wires, this one from Market Connections, Inc., which performed some custom research for the Government Information Technology Council (GITEC).
Likening much of the feds' use of technology as being of "Model T vintage," the report compiled responses from 223 people involved in management, operations, and IT, with about 60 percent from civilian agencies and 40 percent from defense and military agencies.

Cloud computing was often cited (along with wireless and mobile) as technologies that were "beneficial or promising, (yet) remain overlooked.. Almost 75% of respondents said they were either unsure whether their agency had a cloud computing plan or were sure that it didn't. Along with that result, 45% said their agencies are "perpetually behind the technology curve compared to the private sector." Almost 40 percent of respondents said existing legislation "negatively impacts" their agencies' new-technology adoption.
What's the good news here? That there's still plenty of potential? That the feds won't be early victims to cloud security breaches? That the agencies aren't as paleolithic as Congress? That Ted Stevens is no longer in Congress to bring new clarity to the Intertubes?
