Eucalyptus Session at Cloud Expo
Mårten Mickos has been named CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, the open-source Cloud Computing start-up, in a story that broke late afternoon on the East Coast about the Santa Barbara, CA area company.

Mickos, who was interviewed last year by SYS-CON's Jeremy Geelan about the fate of MySQL (all of which databases are now belong to Oracle), the software with which is associated in the industry, has now joined an open-source company that is focused on private and hybrid Cloud Computing, which the Mickos describes as "the future of corporate IT."
“Mårten is unmatched in his ability to blend open-source business techniques and technologies to build an industry leading company. We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to work with him and look forward to seeing his knowledge and boundless energy move Eucalyptus forward,” said Rich Wolski, CTO and co-founder at Eucalyptus Systems.
Eucalyptus has stated that it provides "the only cloud architecture to support the same application programming interfaces (APIs) as public clouds, and is fully compatible with the Amazon AWS cloud infrastructure." The company received $5.5 million in first-round funding last year, as it grew from its research roots at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
