Dell Inc is looking to grab data storage solutions outfit 3PAR Inc for $1.15. 3PAR is a Fremont, California based company that promises to be a major asset for Dell's cloud computing ambitions.It comes with virtualization capabilities that could be a game changer for Dell's services unit which provides on-demand online applications for enterprises looking beyond traditional, on-premises storage systems to reduce their hardware and energy investments. The new virtualized platform together with 3PAR's advanced data management capabilities such as dynamic tiering and thin provisioning will add significant value to its cloud computing business model and also complement its existing storage wares that include PowerVault and EqualLogic iSCSI storage equipment. The Texas computer maker says that this acquired addition would provide Dell's clients with a veritable alternative to the combo stack that arose out of its recent partnership with 3PAR ‘s competitor EMC wherein Dell agreed to resell and support EMC's Data Domain de-duplication appliances and Celerra NAS array under its own brand .No one would be too surprised if the deal fizzles out in the near future with this latest development.

Dell, the world's third-largest personal-computer maker has been on a quest to increase its profit margins which has remained elusive in its core low end laptop market. Its competitive dealing strategy has been to steadfastly push its way into comprehensive mega data center technologies comprising servers, storage and services mainly through a trail of acquisitions such as its other storage conquest EqualLogic, IT services provider Perot Systems , server provisioning vendor Scalent and storage optimization provider Ocarina Networks.
