With 9th Cloud Expo at Silicon Valley's Santa Clara Convention Center now finished, Cloud Computing Journal asked a variety of industry stakeholders what their Top Three takeaways were from the event, now that the many thousands of delegates are back at their desks and their companies, leveraging the knowledge and the insights that they gained through the extensive technical/strategic program and the huge number of booths on the Expo floor.

Here are the Top Three according to Rich Wolski - CTO of Eucalyptus Systems:
The busy Eucalyptus Systems booth at 9th Cloud Expo, Santa Clara, CA
Takeaway #1: Private Clouds are now very realPrivate clouds have transitioned from a "promising technology" to "growing market" in the business cycle. I spent far more time speaking with customers and potential customers than with technologists.
Takeaway #2: Value of the entire Cloud ecosystem is becoming clearerThe focus of attention shifting from a search for the next big cloud innovation to a search for a way to harness the software ecosystem. That is, rather than trying to figure out the "winning" technology, the cloud community is now realizing that the totality of the ecosystem (and not individual components within it) is where the real value lies.
Takeaway #3: Cost savings from cloud model now better understoodThe difference between a virtualized data center and a data center managed as a private cloud is now part of the corporate IT strategy in some vertical segments of the market. Companies that previously believed that virtualized servers were all that are are necessary to streamline the IT process have realized that it is the cloud model itself (and not just virtualization) that really provides the cost savings.
