MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/10/12 -- AnchorFree, the global leader in consumer privacy and internet freedom, today announced the appointment of Doug Maine, former chief financial officer of IBM to the AnchorFree Board of Advisors. AnchorFree's flagship product, Hotspot Shield, is the world's most popular consumer privacy product. Addressing a market of more than 1.6 billion Internet users, Hotspot Shield has been downloaded more than 50 million times. Hotspot Shield's VPN technology encrypts a user's entire Web session so that every website visited and every mobile app is as secure and private as a banking site. Maine's expertise in telecommunications will round out a top-notch board of advisors and help guide AnchorFree as it expands its services to meet the growing demand of users around the world.
Maine joins prominent tech investor Esther Dyson, former chairman and CEO of MCI Bert Roberts, former Ogilvy boss Rick Roth, former Huffington Post president Greg Coleman, and the Silicon Valley finance and corporate development guru Kevin Cook on the AnchorFree Board of Advisors. A number of members of the Advisory Board are also investors in the company.
Doug Maine served as the Chief Financial Officer of IBM and before that as the Chief Financial Officer of MCI. At IBM he became founding general manager of IBM.com in 2000, and general manager of the consumer products industry division in 2003 and retired in 2005. He is currently a Limited Partner with the Wall Street firm of Brown Brothers Harriman and serves on the board of directors of three public and three private companies including software companies BroadSoft and Telarix.
"Doug brings extensive technology experience and a passion for game-changing companies to help AnchorFree continue growing aggressively," said David Gorodyansky, founder and CEO of AnchorFree. "We're focused on expanding Hotspot Shield across several new platforms with a heavy focus on mobile and cloud security. Doug's expertise is invaluable as we roll out these new projects to our users worldwide. His appointment to our Advisory Board is a huge win for AnchorFree."
"It's clear that AnchorFree is dramatically changing how people access the Internet," said Maine, "With Hotspot Shield, I see huge potential for widespread adoption of a multi-faceted tool that should be a part of all internet users' everyday lives."
