CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced the expansion of cloud services in Canada and availability of CSC BizCloud™, the first on-premise private cloud billed as a service and ready for workloads in 10 weeks. BizCloud combines the privacy, security and control of a private cloud with the agility, convenience and commercial model of a public cloud.
BizCloud accelerates the adoption of a private cloud by businesses and government agencies, eliminating lengthy capital acquisition cycles. Compared to do-it-yourself private clouds, where multiple components are acquired and then integrated, BizCloud is based on fully integrated VCE Vblock and comes with a service catalogue, chargeback methodology and automation to simplify management and orchestration.
“By leveraging a converged infrastructure platform and solutions from VCE, CSC is helping clients in Canada exploit the business and economic advantages of a cloud-based infrastructure,” said Todd Pavone, executive vice president, VCE. “With our combined expertise and leadership, VCE and CSC are working together to accelerate data center transformations.”
BizCloud, a VMware™ vCloud Datacenter Service, gives users all the components needed for a private cloud that is preconfigured, integrated and tested, on their premises and behind their firewall. The security monitoring and management included with BizCloud satisfies the requirements of most security-conscious organizations. Initially launched in the United States in February 2011, BizCloud is also available in Europe, Australia and Asia.
“BizCloud and the CSC IaaS layer, CloudCompute™, provide the centerpiece of the modern virtualized datacenter,” said Siki Giunta, vice president of Cloud Computing and Software Services, CSC. “There is a model for every organization. Whether you want self-managed or managed service options, or a private, public or hybrid cloud, CSC is following through on our promise to deliver the right cloud, the right way. With CSC, every organization can easily make the initial move to ‘as a service’ — infrastructure, platform and software on-demand.”
“Cloud Computing has tremendous promise in Canada,” said Mark Schrutt, director, Services and Enterprise Applications, IDC Canada. “Up to this point, many Canadian businesses have been sitting on the sideline waiting for In-Canada solutions. IDC’s research finds that 60 percent of buyers prefer In-Canada IaaS offerings. In addition, Canadian businesses want flexibility at cost-effective prices. CSC’s BizCloud hits on all these points. We see BizCloud as a key addition to the Canadian Cloud market.”
All workloads that are run on the CSC cloud can be scaled up or down according to demand and are billed from the same rate card as the off-premises cloud models: public and virtual private. BizCloud leverages CSC CloudCompute, which is standard across all the CSC clouds. This consistency of architecture ensures optimal mobility of workloads across cloud models. It also enables users to take advantage of a hybrid approach by keeping mission-critical applications on premises with BizCloud while using CSC’s off-premises cloud — also located in Canada — for backup, disaster recovery, business continuity or development and test. Using BizCloud, Canadian companies and government organizations are able to adhere to Canadian data governance regulations while leveraging cloud economics.
CSC also recently announced the availability of CSC Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) based on Cisco’s Hosted Collaboration Services.
“BizCloud’s arrival to Canada fits in nicely with Cisco’s vision of securing, managing and hosting cloud architecture,” said Mike Ansley, vice president, Solutions and Partner Organization for Cisco Canada. “The Vblock platform, which helps run BizCloud, brings together networking, virtualization and storage technologies to help our partners deliver scalable private cloud infrastructure to customers. With BizCloud, IT organizations can choose the private, public or hybrid cloud model they want and deliver it to customers looking to keep their data from crossing borders.”
The CloudCompute infrastructure is built on the powerful, standardized cloud fabric, Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms, from VCE. The Vblock integrates leading virtualization software from VMware; the Cisco Unified Computing System comprising unified networking, security, compute and orchestration; and storage, security and management technologies from EMC.
