"We are extremely pleased and fortunate to add Paul and Ashley to our accomplished board of advisors," said Brad Wurtz, president and CEO, Power Assure. "Their track records and knowledge of the IT and energy markets will play a key role in our growth strategy. Paul provides expertise in the smart grid and demand response while Ashley already has contributed a great deal to how Power Assure presents and analyzes customer data."
"The days of IT managers being able to take power for granted in the data center are rapidly coming to an end," said Paul De Martini. "Most data centers were designed for high performance and high availability, with little or no attention paid to power. I am very excited to take a front seat as Power Assure helps transform how enterprises, government agencies and service providers analyze and utilize energy in their data centers and connect to the smart grid."
Prior to Newport Consulting Group, Paul was chief technology officer and vice president, Innovation for Cisco's Energy Networks Group, where he led development of Cisco's global energy business and technology architecture, energy sector policy, standards and R&D. Previously, he was vice president of Advanced Technology at Southern California Edison (SCE) leading SCE's $2 billion smart grid technology strategy, policy, research and deployment activity. Earlier, he held executive positions with ICF International, Sempra Energy, Coastal Oil and PG&E Corporation in competitive energy services markets, wholesale market and electric system operations. Paul has been recognized for his innovation and efforts on grid modernization, including DoE's Gridwise Applied, EPRI Intelligrid, and EnergyBiz's KITE Innovation awards. He holds an MBA from University of Southern California and is a former Fellow of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Paul also completed the technology management program at Caltech and the project management program at UC Berkeley.
"Costly operating models where all assets, including servers, lighting and cooling, are powered at full capacity 24x7, are not sustainable," said Ashley Davis. "The new operating model will match server capacity with demand in real-time, and energy efficiency will become a key consideration for all data center assets. Power Assure is helping to make this transformation a reality and I'm looking forward to contributing to this significant industry shift."
Ashley brings a wealth of global operations experience gained through executive assignments at JPMorgan Chase, CS Technology, Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley, where he worked with CIO and CEO communities. He has been responsible for the technology and infrastructure design of one million square feet of data center development. He gained experience in the mission critical financial services industry and has managed the strategy and architecture for a global data center portfolio. Ashley is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) and sits on numerous advisory boards and working groups within the data center and cloud industry. Ashley serves as co-chairperson of the ODCA (Open Data Centre Alliance) regulatory and environmental working group and as chairman for the past four years for the Broadgroup awards panel. He also is an intelligent building lecturer at Reading University at MSc level and a 2009 winner for data center operators of the Uptime Institute's Top 100 Green companies.
Paul and Ashley join current Power Assure Advisory Board members Thad R. Perry and Lyman Phillips. Power Assure's advisory board helps guide its efforts to analyze, optimize and automate energy efficiency in the data center. Each of its advisory board members has extensive executive experience in areas including strategic planning and management, process reengineering, technology management, finance and operations and has contributed substantially to the technology and energy industries.
