(NASDAQ: TIBX) today announced results from a survey of IT professionals it sponsored titled "Sorting Through the Noise: SANS Eighth Annual 2012 Log and Event Management Survey." The survey reveals that one of the most important and challenging issues that organizations deal with is separating normal log data from actionable events in order to detect, track and prevent suspicious behavior.

"Increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks and growing mounds of data are placing unprecedented pressure on organizations. According to the survey among IT professionals, many organizations can't identify attackers because of insufficient data. This reflects the following top challenges and focus areas for log data identified by participants:

• Detect and track suspicious network behavior (82%)
• Support forensic analysis and correlation (65%)
• Prevent incidents (58%)
• Detect Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) (54%)

Respondents also said they are using log management solutions to do more than just strengthen security. Of the respondents, 55 percent said log management helps them to achieve regulatory compliance, and 24 to 30 percent of respondents said they are collecting logs for operational and business improvements, including IT operations and support, application and system performance and monitoring service levels and other lines of business.
