ActiveState Redefines PaaS for the Enterprise

Enterprises can now deploy .NET applications to Stackato via technology integration with the Iron Foundry platform

ActiveState has announced the general availability of Stackato 2.0, the application platform for creating a private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). The private PaaS solution now supports .NET applications, offers web-based visual cluster management and delivers performance improvements that foster enterprise development agility. In conjunction with the release, ActiveState also announced a Stackato enterprise customer relationship with Aeroflex.

According to Bart Copeland, CEO at ActiveState, "Stackato 2.0 redefines private PaaS for the enterprise, enabling more agile development, greater DevOps transparency, more efficient cloud management and faster time to market."

The Stackato 2.0 release extends Stackato's market leadership in PaaS polyglot compatibility. Enterprises can now deploy .NET applications to Stackato via technology integration with the Iron Foundry platform: Stackato's automatic configuration tool links with Iron Foundry to support .NET apps in a Stackato PaaS cloud. In addition to .NET, Stackato supports applications coded in enterprise development languages like Java, Ruby, Python, Perl, PHP, Node.JS, Clojure, Scala, Erlang and more.

In addition to support for .NET applications and numerous under-the-hood performance improvements (like a faster app store and improved Heroku buildpack support), Stackato 2.0 introduces new product enhancements targeted specifically at the real-world enterprise:

  • Advanced containerization technology secures cloud apps, but also conserves scale and capacity, meaning the apps run better in less virtual real estate (with multiple containers per VM).
  • The enhanced Web Management Console now offers visual cluster administration: DevOps gain greater visibility into cloud applications deployment management with less administrative impact, meaning their developers can spend time coding instead of writing reports.

Corporate Stackato adopters are leading the way to the cloud for their enterprises. Test and measurement company Aeroflex will use Stackato to automate its cloud application stack configuration, saving time and money.

Stackato 2.0 is available in Enterprise and Micro Cloud editions. In addition, Stackato 2.0 is available on Amazon EC2 and will soon be made available on HP Cloud Services. Learn more at http://www.activestate.com/stackato.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
