BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/06/12 -- Cloud Spectator, a leading independent cloud computing analyst firm that provides research and data on Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), today unveiled its cloud performance and stability report on Amazon EC2. The report highlights Amazon EC2's performance and stability through industry-standard open-source benchmark tests. After 30 days of analysis, the data showed performance fluctuations and spikes leading to inconsistency in Amazon EC2's service.
Cloud Spectator's CloudSpecs System leveraged a series of benchmarks to analyze categorical server performance in aspects of CPU, RAM, Disk, and internal network.
After measuring performance over a 30-day period, the CloudSpecs System revealed:
- Amazon EC2 East's data center's virtual CPUs and RAM in the XL perform better than the disk and VPN connections
- Disk performs steadily throughout a consecutive 30-day period
- CPU performs at a moderately stable rate
- RAM and internal network performance are unstable
"Performance is a key factor for any company looking to evaluate an Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider. Even more than price, the final decision can come down to performance metrics, how consistent is the service I am going to purchase," said Kenny Li, founder and CEO at Cloud Spectator. "There has been a lot of talk among the industry about Amazon EC2 and its stable performance. Our analysis validates that indeed there are inconsistencies in service performance. But more than that, we provide detailed data that shows the highs and lows of the service. This level of research will help not only Amazon, but companies who are evaluating Amazon. Inconsistency doesn't have to be bad, it depends on what you are using the service to accomplish."
