Once again, we have seen exciting and phenomenal movements in the technology frontier this year, particularly in the fields of SMAC. Looking forward, 2013 is expected to be more accelerated and innovative. I predict that the challenging theme for next year lies in the following areas: Mobile, Analytics, Gamification, Interfacing, Cloud and Social (MAGICS).- Mobile: Mobile devices will consolidate and converge towards an all-in-one handheld, which also serves as a sensor and remote control to other embedded smart devices and services.
- Analytics: Big Data analysis will advance to drive truly real-time BI on data in any structure from any source, resulting in more semantic and predictive insights to help decision makers and individuals.
- Gamification: Gamifying applications will gain momentum to go mainstream, marching to another level of involvement and inspiration in user experience.
- Interfacing: Better and disruptive ways to interact in H2C, C2C, and H2H via computer tend to emerge, e.g. natural language adaptation, gesture recognition, body sensor.
- Cloud: Commoditization and interoperability will make the cloudy marketplace less crowded, with capability as a service being on-demand and just-in-time.
- Social: Micro networks will thrive towards social dashboards and advanced crowdsourcing via PaaS to add business values and improve operational performance.
