Fischer International Identity, LLC, the leader in cloud-based identity management, announced today that Furman University has moved into production the Fischer Identity solution for federated single sign-on, enabling the University to satisfy the InCommon® federation requirements and begin realizing the benefits of InCommon membership.
Furman saw the opportunity to simplify operations and to reduce costs by leveraging InCommon federation capabilities with industry standards for authentication to on-campus and SaaS-based applications. According to Randy Dill, Director of Enterprise Systems at Furman University, “we needed to implement Shibboleth federated SSO within a short timeframe as part of our InCommon membership, but we didn’t have the skill set. We have been very pleased with Fischer: They set our expectations, performed all work remotely to reduce expenses, and implemented the solution on time and in budget. In addition to implementing the solution, Fischer went the extra mile for us and helped troubleshoot and resolve an issue related to changes in the metadata.”
Since the implementation, Furman has extended the solution themselves to additional federated applications and plans to link to several other federated applications. Furman also plans to further simplify the user experience by integrating the solution with their user portal, which is already linked with their non-federated SSO solutions, so that users will use the same process to authenticate to any portal application.
About Furman University
Furman University is one of the nation's premier undergraduate liberal arts colleges. Founded in 1826, the private university offers outstanding academics, opportunities for a broad range of talented students with a passion for learning, a robust visual and performing arts program and NCAA Division I athletics. Modern, sophisticated academic buildings and more than 500,000 volumes in the James B. Duke Library are complemented by comprehensive athletics, recreational and social facilities. Furman’s 750-acre campus is nationally acclaimed for its beauty and the residential student body is the ideal size to enhance scholarly activity, personal growth and leadership development.
