SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/05/13 -- Kaspersky Threatpost Security Analyst Summit -- OpenDNS, the world's leading provider of cloud-delivered Internet security solutions, today announced the Umbrella Security Graph, a cyber security intelligence platform that empowers Internet security professionals to leverage Big Data to discover and predict malicious attacks -- before users are compromised and data is exfiltrated. For the first time, security researchers will have access to a global view of Internet connections and DNS traffic patterns with sophisticated analytics and scoring capabilities. The Umbrella Security Graph speeds and improves discovery, tracking, and takedowns of complex malware and bot networks.
During a presentation at the Kaspersky Threatpost Security Analyst Summit, OpenDNS CTO Dan Hubbard will demonstrate how the Umbrella Security Graph can be used to discover different attributes, locations, and domains connected with the recently uncovered 'Red October' attacks. With the Umbrella Security Graph, OpenDNS can now deliver predictive Internet security protection to its customers by combining the company's indexed and cross-referenced data with real-time cyber intelligence scoring and threat classification.
"Security needs to keep ahead of the pace of technology," said Dan Hubbard, CTO of OpenDNS. "We can get ahead of the bad guys by using the Internet as the ultimate bread crumb trail at scale. Then we can predict emerging threats by using our big data analytics tools, machine learning, graph theory and related algorithms. The Umbrella Security Graph gives us the ability to look at our extensive data collection network built on top of the world's largest security infrastructure and predict what's coming next."
Developed by OpenDNS's new Umbrella Security Labs team, the Umbrella Security Graph enables predictive, big data security intelligence by tapping into the company's worldwide network that services 45 billion daily DNS requests. Security professionals can query the DNS requests, in aggregate, made by more than 50 million geographically distributed users and correlate attack data to discover additional hosts, locations, Autonomous Systems, networks and other salient details.
"This is just the beginning of our move into predictive security intelligence," said Hubbard. "The mission of the Umbrella Security Labs is to continually innovate ahead of the pace of technology change and build the best security protection and security delivery network platform possible without compromising performance or productivity. By partnering with other entities that can contribute additional data scoring techniques, data mining capabilities and visual graphs -- we can transform from the Internet security industry from reactive to predictive."
