"I emigrated from Shanghai to San Francisco and worked very hard and passionately to become an entrepreneur. I am truly humbled and honored for this recognition and to receive the Silicon Valley Entrepreneur of the Year Award. From my personal experience, I believe that immigration is a key factor in adding great value to the amazing talent pool in the Silicon Valley. As a result, today the Bay Area is home to the world's leading innovation hub with the greatest technology companies, universities and advanced research laboratories all contained within a 50-mile radius," said Ms. Weili Dai, Co-Founder of Marvell. "I am very proud and fortunate to have co-founded Marvell 18 years ago. As one of the top five fabless semiconductor companies in the world, we are very proud to support our global customers and partners for their success in empowering consumers around the world with access to information and knowledge for a better life. I'd like to thank and dedicate this award to our global Marvell family for their effort and contributions. To me, this is a team success."
Founded in 1917, CIE/USA is one of the oldest and most prestigious Chinese-American engineering associations in the United States. The objective of CIE/USA is to promote communication and the interchange of information among engineers and scientists in the various fields of engineering science who are interested in the wellbeing of the Chinese engineering community in the United States and abroad. It has seven chapters in the United States, including the San Francisco Bay Area chapter.
"Ms. Dai's entrepreneurship, professionalism and strong business leadership has driven the growth and success of Marvell, a leading world-class technology company that now employs thousands of engineers around the world. A first-generation Asian American, her achievements are amplified by her ambition and initiative. Ms. Dai is an exemplary businesswoman and technology trailblazer, and that is why we have selected her as the CIE's Entrepreneur of the Year," said John Y. Xie, Ph.D., chairman of the board, CIE/USA-SF.
Ms. Dai is one of the most successful women entrepreneurs in the world today. Widely considered a technology visionary, she is the only female co-founder of a global semiconductor company, and since it began in 1995, she has helped Marvell's rise to become one of the top semiconductor companies in the world. Ms. Dai's business acumen, strategic thinking, product leadership, endless passion and personal network have contributed greatly to Marvell's fast rise to success. Her close relationship with her customers and the foundation of the trust shared with them has given her a strong reputation for professionalism and integrity throughout the technology industry.
Ms. Dai has also become a driving force in expanding access to technology in the developing world and an ambassador of opportunity between the U.S. and China, particularly in the arenas of education and green technology. Ms. Dai has become a powerful advocate for the better use of technology to improve the human condition. For her contributions to technology and society, Newsweek named Ms. Dai one of the "150 Women Who Shake the World" and Ms. Dai was recently profiled by CNN International for the Leading Women Series: Leading the Female Tech Charge. Additionally, Forbes Magazine lists Ms. Dai as one of the "World's 100 Most Powerful Women."
