8 Top Tips to Keep Your Business Productive During the Summer Holidays

 
Summer is a great time for business. It gives you time to recoup energy, reconsider strategies and come up with fresh ideas to keep profits up throughout all four seasons. However, there are times that the holidays can be disruptive to those of us that aren’t off sipping cocktails on the beach.
 
Are you eager to make the most of the summer sun but stay productive? Here are 8 ways you can use these months to get ahead of the game:
 
1. Assess your projects
Analyse which of your current projects are flourishing, which are languishing, and which are neither here nor there. If you don’t have a master list of the tasks you’re involved in, start by making one with your team and using shared calendars so they’re visible.
 
2. Have a spring (summer) clean
When Albert Einstein said, “If a cluttered desk signs a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?” he wasn’t referring to the receipts, magazines, soy sauce sachets, and ‘Now That’s What I call Music!’ CDs scattered around your desk. Just me? Ok maybe not to that extent. But let’s face it; over time clutter can amass in our working environment that is distracting. The summer months are a perfect opportunity to fix that.
 
3. Clear out your inbox
You’re on a roll. You’ve just cleared your desk, why not keep up the momentum and clear your inbox? Spend a few hours organising the e-clutter, and delete what isn’t essential.
 
4. Review your personal goals
Top-level athletes, successful business-people and high achievers from all fields use goal setting. Reviewing your personal ambitions will give you short-term motivation and long-term vision so that when next summer comes around, you’re in a better position to have actually realised your goals.
 
5. Introduce flexible working
One of my colleagues previously revealed how to stay productive during major sporting events like the World Cup by experimenting with flexible working patterns. When executed appropriately, they will boost morale and empower your team – which will underpin a productive business.
 
6. Bring in new recruits
Look around you. How many of your team members are actually in the office right now? Summer is a time when your team will be in intermittently; so it is often the best time to introduce fresh minds. Employ graduates to help you with a summer project while a team member is away. You never know, you may discover the next Aaron Levie.
 
7. Take a break!
You as much as anyone need a holiday to keep spirits and energy up around the office. And of course your laptop is coming with you. If you had to choose between that and your partner, there’d only be one winner, right? The beauty of the cloud is that you can work from the office, home or the beach – just limit your online time to 15 minutes a day to respond to critical emails.
 
8. Start something new
Launch a venture that you’ve been hoping would takeoff for months but you haven’t quite got round to. Refresh your website. Initiate a joint venture. Take up dodge ball. Have a look at the projects that are on your ‘to-do’ list or dust off your list of shelved ideas. Choose one and get going!
