"Our annual forum is expanding its outreach beyond IT – to become the global category-leading conference for the world's data-driven professionals," said Alan Chow, the conference Chair, tech innovator who developed the original Teradata database file system and leader of Teradata Cloud Platform Operations. "It's a valuable experience, dedicated to sharing very cool and useful insight for IT, of course, but also for analysts, marketers, executives, data scientists and even students. The event attracts a fast-growing network of data-driven illuminati; a smart society of pragmatic visionaries, thought leaders, informed data activists, futurists and freethinking Teradata radicals in search of more business bang for the byte."

The Teradata conference marks the epicenter of what experts have declared is a hot marketplace. According to a recent Forbes roundup of big data trends, A.T. Kearney forecasts global spending on big data hardware, software and services will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 30 percent through 2018, reaching a total market value of $114 billion. Analytics and marketing applications are also growing into billion-dollar business fields, where top IT analysts have positioned Teradata as a leader, making PARTNERS the place to be for insight into these trending, newsworthy markets.

This year Teradata is offering a Virtual Conference package, which extends the event to a broader global audience using digital and 3D technology for social interaction. The virtual event will run Monday through Wednesday and offer attendees live streaming sessions, accessible from computer, tablet, or smart phone. Participants on site and on line can watch select sessions and use the network to chat, participate in Q&A sessions, view demos and more. "We'll also have a Virtual News Desk," said Chow. "The News Desk anchors will interview attendees and special guests as the conference rolls along, which will further enhance the insights, fun and breaking news from the event."

The Teradata conference mission, Chow said, is to discover and communicate how the power of data can be applied to business, improve lives, and advance global society as a whole. One of the hallmarks of the PARTNERS conference is the customer presentations. This year's line up includes data professionals from global organizations including eBay, Netflix, AT&T, the American Cancer Society, RBC, Lloyd's Banking Group, DELTA Airlines, Sirius XM Radio and more of the biggest global names in retail, telecommunications, entertainment, finance, healthcare and manufacturing.

The Monday keynote is Dr. Peter Diamandis, Chairman and CEO of XPRIZE, and co-founder of the Singularity University along with Dr. Ray Kurzweil. Diamandis will cover the rapid growth of key exponential technologies that empower individuals and companies -- including artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, synthetic biology, embedded networks, nanotechnology, materials and human machine interfaces.

Wednesday's keynote is Herman Edwards, ESPN Sports Analyst and former NFL Coach, one of the most informed analysts on television today. Edwards co-authored the book You Play to Win the Game: Leadership Lessons for Success On and Off the Field.

"I've been a participant at Teradata conferences for years, and this is definitely not for technologists only – it's about smart people using smart technology to create tangible business value," said Kathy Koontz with Nationwide Insurance, who is the 2014 PARTNERS Steering Committee President and a featured speaker on Monday. "It's a four-year course in big data analytics packed into five exciting days. And you meet so many truly brilliant and engaging people."

In addition, the steering committee is inviting all socially conscious attendees to join in for a pre-event DataDive, October 16-17. Participants can sign up to collaborate with the brightest minds in the Teradata world to analyze, visualize, and mashup the most cutting-edge data, benefitting a group of excellent non-profits. Charities will be determined prior to the special event, to be led by DataKind founder Jake Porway.

The PARTNERS Expo is expected to attract thousands of followers from companies in every industry and 70 countries. A wide array of exhibits from Teradata and its partners will include those from diamond event sponsors IBM, MicroStrategy, SAS, Tableau, and TIBCO.

In addition to many customer presentations, top business and technology analysts and university thought leaders will also lead sessions. The academic dimension at PARTNERS also includes a college student competition on "Solving Business Issues with Big Data and Analytics," and networking opportunities with companies seeking to expand their talent pool in integrated marketing management, data integration and big data analytics.

In surveys, 95 percent of attendees believe that attending PARTNERS was time well spent. For details, click here to visit the PARTNERS 2014 web site.

Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha...

What happens when the different parts of a vehicle become smarter than the vehicle itself? As we move toward the era of smart everything, hundreds of entities in a vehicle that communicate with each other, the vehicle and external systems create a need for identity orchestration so that all entities work as a conglomerate. Much like an orchestra without a conductor, without the ability to secure, control, and connect the link between a vehicle’s head unit, devices, and systems and to manage the ...

Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels. With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way.

For basic one-to-one voice or video calling solutions, WebRTC has proven to be a very powerful technology. Although WebRTC’s core functionality is to provide secure, real-time p2p media streaming, leveraging native platform features and server-side components brings up new communication capabilities for web and native mobile applications, allowing for advanced multi-user use cases such as video broadcasting, conferencing, and media recording.
Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards. HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular basis. Each protocol has its pros and cons depending on the nature of the communications. Does there really need to be only one protocol to rule them all? Of course not. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chris Matthieu, co-founder and CTO of Octoblu, walk you through how Oct...
Major trends and emerging technologies – from virtual reality and IoT, to Big Data and algorithms – are helping organizations innovate in the digital era. However, to create real business value, IT must think beyond the ‘what’ of digital transformation to the ‘how’ to harness emerging trends, innovation and disruption. Architecture is the key that underpins and ties all these efforts together. In the digital age, it’s important to invest in architecture, extend the enterprise footprint to the cl...
Almost everyone sees the potential of Internet of Things but how can businesses truly unlock that potential. The key will be in the ability to discover business insight in the midst of an ocean of Big Data generated from billions of embedded devices via Systems of Discover. Businesses will also need to ensure that they can sustain that insight by leveraging the cloud for global reach, scale and elasticity.
A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.
One of biggest questions about Big Data is “How do we harness all that information for business use quickly and effectively?” Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or spatial technology is about more than making maps, but adding critical context and meaning to data of all types, coming from all different channels – even sensors. In his session at @ThingsExpo, William (Bill) Meehan, director of utility solutions for Esri, will take a closer look at the current state of spatial technology and ar...
Explosive growth in connected devices. Enormous amounts of data for collection and analysis. Critical use of data for split-second decision making and actionable information.
