Microsoft's David Greschler Outlines Virtualization at SOA World 2007

Keynote Centers on "Diversity of Virtualization," Streamed Live to Thousands of Global Viewers

David Greschler (pictured), Director of Virtualization Strategy at Microsoft, spoke to a full house at the colocated SOA World Conference & Expo 2007 East and first Virtualization Conferenc & Expo in New York, during which time he outlined the growth of 'diversified virtualization."

"People often think there is just one kind of virtualization," he pointed out. "The attendees at this conference know differently, but not everyone does. At Microsoft, we view virtualization at many levels." Greschler took attendees--and thousands of viewers who were watching the keynote streamed live on SYS-CON.TV--on a tour of his view of virtualization. Greschler founded virtualization pioneer Softricity before it was acquired by Microsoft, and has been an expert in this area for many years.

"How can you take a Windows app and turn it into a service?," he asked, before proceeding with a description of how to do just that. He also warned about creating new "islands of virtualization" and stressed the importance of "normalizing these processes" while pointing out that "management is at the center of all this." Management challenges include how to "seamlessly manage both physical and virtual from the same 'pane of glass'," how to leverage functionality of time-tested management tools, and how to manage diversified virtualization.

The colocated events in New York are being produced by SYS-CON Events, which also produces the upcoming AJAXWorld Conference & Expo, to be held September 24-26 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA.
