Sourcefire Buys ClamAV

The developers stay on as Sourcefire employees

Snort creator Sourcefire, the open source network security house that went public in March to subsequent poor reviews, has acquired ClamAV, a popular open source network anti-virus toolkit and associated copyrights from its developers on undisclosed terms.

The developers stay on as Sourcefire employees.

The broader reach will cost Sourcefire a one-time charge of 9 cents-12 cents this quarter to write off in-process R&D.

ClamAV is said to be one of the most broadly adopted open source software, the equivalent of any commercial anti-virus.
