Accellion has announced a virtual appliance for secure file transfer. Designed to meet the needs of corporations moving toward virtualized environments, the Accellion virtual appliance helps companies address the ever-increasing need to securely and efficiently transmit large digital files.

The growth of digital information is impacting all industries. Companies without easy-to-use processes in place to securely manage the flow of digital files, internally and externally, run the risk of end users turning to third-party, unsecured IT workarounds to transfer digital files. For companies moving their IT environments towards virtualization, Accellion is extending the management of secure large file transfers in a manner that parallels virtualization efforts. 

The Accellion virtual appliance operates identically to the hardware-based appliance. In addition to an easy-to-use interface, customers can quickly send and receive files in a format that meets the strictest security and privacy requirements.  It also offers tracking and reporting capabilities to help customer’s document conformance with security and compliance requirements during electronic file transfers.  Virtual and hardware-based appliances work together seamlessly.

With the introduction of its virtual appliance, Accellion is also expanding its Green Initiative by partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to highlight and recognize Accellion’s environmentally friendly solution for sending and receiving large files. For example, a terabyte (TB) of data transferred via Accellion represents the equivalent of 50,000 trees made into paper and printed, or the equivalent of 2,000 compact disks of data shipped via overnight delivery. Accellion, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, will present The Accellion Green Award each Arbor Day to those corporations that record the highest Accellion file transfer usage. In addition, Accellion will partner with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 10,000 trees in America’s National Forests.
