Cross-Platform Virtualization Solution QuickTransit for the Solaris Operating System Receives Solaris Ready Logo Certification From Sun

Transitive Ships Latest QuickTransit Release to Deliver Broader Application and Platform Choices for Solaris Customers

Transitive Corporation announced the availability of QuickTransit for the Solaris operating system (OS) on SPARC to Solaris on x86/64 systems. In addition, this latest product in the QuickTransit enterprise product line has achieved the Solaris Ready Logo certification from Sun. To complement this release, Transitive and Sun are investigating the development of future QuickTransit versions capable of running native x86 applications on SPARC-based platforms without modification to source code or binaries.

This latest version of QuickTransit represents a welcome solution for enterprise customers that have deployed the Solaris OS on x86 operating systems, since it allows them to run many thousands of additional applications. Customers that have opted to deploy the Solaris OS on x86 hardware platforms from Sun, IBM, HP, Dell and others can deploy QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86-64 to immediately benefit from running the large and diverse range of Solaris SPARC-based applications that have been developed by independent software vendors (ISVs), open source developers and internal application development teams.

"The release of QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86-64 is another important milestone for Transitive and occurs at a time of accelerated momentum in cross-platform virtualization," said Bob Wiederhold, president and CEO of Transitive. "This release is also timely because of the increasing interest in the Solaris OS on x86 among enterprise datacenter managers seeking robust and reliable operating system options."

Transitive, a member of the Sun Partner Advantage Program, previewed QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86-64 at the 2007 JavaOne Conference in San Francisco. The product has received Solaris Ready Logo certification from Sun, and has been listed in the Sun Solaris Ready Applications and Solutions Catalog.

"Sun is about openness and choice, offering its customers the best computing infrastructure, easily adapted to their business and operational needs," said Juan Carlos Soto, vice president of Global Market Development at Sun. "Working with Transitive, Sun makes it easier for customers to leverage the power and value inherent in the open-source Solaris OS by developing their application once and deploying it on the Sun system or architecture of choice, optimized and best fitted to a specific need."

To reflect the most common customer deployment scenarios, Transitive offers three configurations of its QuickTransit enterprise product line:

  • QuickTransit Workstation
  • QuickTransit Server
  • QuickTransit Legacy

QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86-64 is available in all three configurations.

Evaluation versions of QuickTransit can be downloaded from the Transitive Web site at: http://www.transitive.com/evaluate
