Linspire announced the support for the Linux Mint operating
system. To gain access to the free CNR Service, Linux Mint 4.0 users simply
install the free CNR Client that is available at CNR.com. With Linux Mint
support, CNR.com now offers its one-click software delivery service to five
Linux distributions available, including Freespire 2.0, Kubuntu 7.04 &
7.10, Linspire 6.0 and Ubuntu 7.04, 7.10 & 8.04 (32bit).
"We are excited to introduce the CNR.com service to the
growing Linux Mint user base," stated Larry Kettler, President & CEO
of Linspire, Inc. "With CNR.com we will continue to focus on offering
users the best value in both software and services available in the desktop
Linux marketplace."
A free service requiring no registration to use, CNR.com
provides an online marketplace where users can search for software by title,
popularity, user rating, category and function, regardless of whether they are
desktop Linux or web-based applications. Providing both free and commercial
software, CNR.com offers desktop Linux products from IBM, Sun, Google,
Parallels, CodeWeavers, and more.
"CNR makes it easy to install commercial software and
purchase services which aren't available via the Linux Mint Software Portal or
the Debian package manager," says Clement Lefebvre, Lead Developer at
Linux Mint. "It's a nice addition to the desktop as it provides users with
yet another way to install software and it makes it easy to access more
applications. Support for Linux Mint 5 Elyssa will follow shortly and we are
looking forward to working together with CNR.com to further improve the user
experience on the Linux desktop."
CNR.com currently provides a number of interactive
features where users can help contribute and build a community in a web 2.0
environment. User-developed content through community tools and on-line
collaboration serves to better the overall experience for everyone who comes to
CNR.com in search of software solutions. Most content in CNR.com is generated
by the community and includes the capability for users to create and edit
software product pages by adding screenshots, user reviews, product ratings and
descriptions, and as well as define the specific category the software should
be listed under.
