Salesforce.com, which has already linked its CRM software to Google Apps and integrated AdWords tracking into its platform, is deploying a free new Force.com Toolkit for Google Data APIs so third-party developers can interact with data in Google services.
The toolkit is supposed to bring together data and content in Google Apps with the database, logic and workflow capabilities in Salesforce.com’s Force.com development platform.
Salesforce claims the move creates a “multi-cloud computing platform” that will accelerate the creation of newfangled web-based applications.
It’s thinking business applications that extend Salesforce for Google Apps as well as brand new applications that help customers run their business entirely in the cloud.
Salesforce used as examples applications like sales quote generation and business forecasting that can be deployed by customers with just a few clicks via the AppExchange.
And it said that six of the top 10 applications on its AppExchange marketplace are Google-related, pointing to that as evidence of growing customer demand for third-party applications that leverage multi-cloud platforms.
CODA, a European ISV, for instance, has built a web application prototype that takes data from Google Spreadsheets and brings it directly into the Order-to-Cash module of CODA 2go, a financials application built on Force.com.
