Mazu Networks and Altor Networks to Deliver Virtual Network Security

Integration Provides Complete Application Performance and Security Analysis of Virtual and Physical Network Infrastructure

Mazu Networks, the leading provider of behavior-based, enterprise-class performance and availability solutions, and Altor Networks, a leading vendor of purpose-built virtual firewalls, today announced a technology partnership. The partnership will integrate Mazu Profiler, an application performance and security solution based on Network Behavior Analysis (NBA), with the Altor VF virtual firewall, a security solution for virtual servers. The integration will deliver the only virtual security solution available on the market today that uses NBA to secure and enforce policies on individual virtual machines (VM) even as VMs migrate around the data center using VMotion/DRS.

With the acceleration of virtualization, application performance, availability and security become very important, said Poornima DeBolle, senior director, business development, Altor Networks. Mazu Networks flow-based NBA is a natural complement to the Altor VF virtual firewall, providing our joint customers with the ability to extend security and operational best-practices into the virtual environment.

The Altor VF, which was introduced today, is a software security appliance that runs in a virtualized environment and enforces security policy on a per VM-basis. Unlike existing firewalls designed for physical networks, the Altor VF virtual firewall can secure Live Migration a technology designed to trigger automatic movement of VMs across physical servers, but capable of inadvertently moving an application to a less trusted network. The Altor VF was purpose-built for the virtual environment enabling tighter security policy and greater ease-of-use than existing virtual firewalls adapted from their physical firewall counterparts. Partnering with Mazu Networks allows Altor Networks to bring yet another level of security to the virtual environment. The combined solution offers customers a more complete security solution to understand all traffic, whether virtual, physical or a combination of both.

The partnership between Altor Networks and Mazu Networks gives customers access to flow-level visibility to the traffic moving between VMs within a virtual environment, said Charles Kaplan, chief technology strategist, Mazu Networks. Visibility into virtualized environments for security and availability management continues to be a growing concern for our customers. By closing this gap, enterprises can minimize the risks associated with VM rollouts.

Mazu Profiler offers organizations a new way of looking at the IT infrastructure and provides significant value to network, security and data center operations teams. By using Mazu Profilers comprehensive behavior-based analytics, IT teams gain a true end-to-end view of the application delivery path from back-end servers to the users desktops. Mazu Profiler learns the typical behavior patterns and interactions of and dependencies between users, applications, network and systems. Mazu Profiler is the only solution that uses advanced behavior-based analysis to detect application, network and security issues to ensure the constant delivery of critical business applications. Integrating Mazu Profiler with Altor VF virtual firewall brings the value of behavior-based analysis of network flow data to the virtual, physical and VMotion environments.

About Altor Networks

Altor Networks is pioneering a new class of virtual security solutions to secure production-oriented virtualized data centers. The companys initial product line includes the industrys first-ever purpose-built virtual firewall, a software security appliance that runs in a virtualized environment and enforces security policy on a per virtual machine basis. Data center administrators can now pinpoint a broad range of virtual network security compromises and easily create roles-based security policies. For the first time, security policies can be continuously enforced on individual virtual machines, even as they move throughout the virtualized data center. Founded by security and networking experts from Check Point Software, Cisco and Oracle, Altor Networks is funded by Accel Partners and Foundation Capital and is headquartered in Redwood City, California.
