StarWind Software Offers Free VMware and Microsoft Image File V2V Converter

StarWind Releases a Free V2V (Virtual-to-Virtual) Conversion Tool to Help SMBs Convert Multi-Vendor Virtual Machines

BURLINGTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/02/09 -- StarWind Software, a global leader in storage virtualization and iSCSI storage software, today announced the release of StarWind Converter, a free multi-vendor V2V (Virtual to Virtual) converter that will convert virtual machine images from VMware ESX (VMDK) format into the Microsoft Hyper-V (VHD) format and also into StarWind virtual SAN (IMG) format and vice versa. The unique feature of the free StarWind V2V Converter is that it allows IT administrators to easily migrate any virtual machines from direct attached storage to shared storage on the network in one quick and simple step. Therefore anybody can move VMDK or VHD images safely to shared storage, allowing for virtual server clustering, therefore ensuring high application and VM availability. This also means that system administrators will be able to use advanced VMware features such as VMotion, VMware HA, DRS and VCB now that they moved VMDKs to shared storage.

Virtual infrastructure administrators can use the free StarWind Converter to cross multiple vendor or incompatible virtualization host platforms. StarWind is offering this free software to simplify virtual machine migrations as well as development and testing in virtual infrastructures that run on multiple platforms as part of the commitment to enhancing virtual environments for SMBs.

"We are sincerely excited to offer IT professionals this useful V2V conversion tool at no cost," said Zorian Rotenberg, president and CEO, StarWind Software. "This is part of our continuing commitment to help IT professionals at small and midsize companies experience the benefits of combining server and storage virtualization. Our free V2V Converter is a very simple tool that will facilitate the migration and conversion of virtual machine images."

The converter is easily downloadable and provides a sector by sector copy that does not alter the source image. This will help for testing between VMware and Hyper-V, as well as provide the ability to convert local storage into a StarWind image file that can be mounted and shared.

Key Features of StarWind Converter:

-- Converts from VMDK to VHD and vice versa
-- Sector by sector copy
-- Does not modify source image
-- Easy to install and use

StarWind V2V Converter downloads and installs on any Windows Server.

Artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks. We're in the midst of a wave of excitement around AI such as hasn't been seen for a few decades.
