The Great Cisco Virtualization Switch!
There are so many toes in the virtualization pool right now it looks like a convention of foot fetishists and Cisco is expecting to make an exceptionally big splash. The other day it unveiled what it thinks is its most important product in, oh, goodness, 15 years. It's a switch'a data center switch'a very big switch with incredibly massive bandwidth capacity that Cisco created for what it sees as the next-generation virtualized data center, its Data Center 3.0 vision.

Nice summary of the launch. One of the more interesting aspects of the Cisco Nexus, from a virtualization perspective is that the OS provides hypervisor-like switch virtualization, so we can host multiple virtual switches on one physical switch a la VMware or Xen. The logic is much the same as it is for server virtualization--improved utilization, reduction of infrastructure sprawl, resource flexibility, etc.
