Dell Steals Virtualization March on HP & IBM
Dell will take a big giant step out ahead of HP and IBM in the virtualization sweepstakes when it announces that it is OEMing PAN, Egenera's data center virtualization and management software. Egenera, which has been doing virtualization way longer than most people, claims PAN is the epitome of what IDC calls 'Virtualization 2.0,' the next step beyond simple VMware-style single server virtualization replete with scalability, faster provisioning, high availability, disaster recovery and resource balancing.

First of all, did anyone edit this piece? It was quite difficult to parse the language in some places. More importantly, I have a real problem with generic aspersions being heaped upon IBM with no details. HP suffers a similar fate, but at least there's a general statement about HP's "disjointed" approach. There's no details at all about IBM's virtualization problems.

This comes across as a pure piece of marketing hype for Engenera. The author may be a "well-respected reporter", but with lines like, "... this little miracle...", plus no actual comparison details, she shows a disappointing lack of objectivity.

Full disclosure: I work for IBM, but have nothing to do with any of IBM's virtualization products. This is my personal opinion, and does not reflect the opinion of IBM.
