Violin Memory announced it has successfully tested the
Violin 1010 memory appliance with the FalconStor Network Storage Server (NSS)
from FalconStor Software. The Violin 1010 memory appliance and the FalconStor
NSS can be integrated within a solution to meet the high performance,
virtualized data storage demands of enterprise data centers.
The Violin 1010 memory appliance supports up to 1/2TB of
DRAM in 2U and reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of Tier-Ø memory in
the data center by offering scalability, performance and reduced power. The
memory appliance features low latency and IOPS that are 1000X faster than hard
disk and 50X faster than Flash SSDs. As a result, applications can be
accelerated by a factor of 10 - 100X.
FalconStor provides software that can be configured to solve
the data storage and data protection challenges facing specific application
environments. Built on a TOTALLY open network storage solution platform, the
FalconStor NSS delivers high performance inline storage virtualization with a
wide range of data protection features.
Combining these two technologies and products, enterprise
data centers can benefit from scalable data deduplication, storage caching and
Tier-Ø solutions. Tier-Ø is the natural extension of tiered storage and
provides orders of magnitude lower latency and higher IOPS than disk-based
storage systems.
"Violin's memory appliance offers unparalleled speed,
scalability and a compelling combination of price and performance, which can be
leveraged with the advanced storage services and the Fibre Channel and
InfiniBand protocols of the FalconStor NSS," said Bernie Wu, FalconStor
vice president of business development. "Working together, FalconStor and
Violin can enable a wide-range of high performance, low latency storage I/O
intensive applications that were previously unaffordable."
A High Availability (HA) configuration of two FalconStor
appliances cross-connected with two or more Violin Memory 1010 Appliances is
available. This HA configuration supports:
- Over 2.6 GByte/s bandwidth
- SAN (Fiber Channel) & NAS capabilities
- Fault tolerance
- Storage services including caching, deduplication and
continuous data protection
"There is another important aspect to this
announcement," noted Greg Kenepp, EVP of Sales and Marketing at Violin.
"By partnering with Violin, FalconStor VARs will be able to offer a
compelling addition to their solution portfolios for a wide range of high
performance storage applications."
Violin and FalconStor have completed extensive system
integration and testing in order to certify the high performance storage
solution.
