VLX for Network Infrastructure 3.0 is VirtualLogix’s
Real-Time Virtualization software, designed to address the demanding
environments of communications equipment. With VLX for Network Infrastructure,
VirtualLogix is meeting the needs of embedded network infrastructure equipment
makers as they work to create high-performance products, From core network
elements to access point devices, VLX for Network Infrastructure 3.0
virtualizes the processing hardware, enabling flexible and efficient software
solutions for new converged networks.
With VLX for Network Infrastructure 3.0, users can easily
migrate from single-core to multi-core processors. This in turn allows
commercial or proprietary real-time operating systems (RTOSs) and Linux
operating systems (OSs)
to run simultaneously on the Intel Core Microarchitecture or Texas Instruments
DSPs, without disrupting the behavior of their supported applications. VLX for
Network Infrastructure 3.0 delivers business benefits including reduced bill of
materials, reduced development time, and less power consumption. In its latest
product version, VirtualLogix enhanced these core offerings with capabilities
including support for Windows enabling developers to take immediate advantage
of the latest Intel processor technology advancements.
Support for the latest Single Board Computer was also added
to VLX for Network Infrastructure 3.0, providing developers the advantage of
superior subsystem scalability and density while also delivering a substantial
performance boost. VirtualLogix further enables the consolidation of complex
system hardware by allowing mix-and-match 32 or 64 bit, symmetric
multi-processor or uni-processor combinations of real-time operating systems
such as MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks with general purpose operating
systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux or UNIX. VirtualLogix
performance-focused architecture ensures that all guest-OSs retain fast and
predictable response and I/O throughput.
As developers increasing look to create high-performance
products while also reducing costs and improving reliability, they face a
myriad of technical challenges. From the cost of processors to the demands of
fixed mobile convergence, these challenges are compounded by the ever
increasing customer demand for faster, cheaper and more reliable products and
services. Virtualization plays a unique role in alleviating these concerns,
enabling multiple operating systems (OSs)
to coexist on a single piece of hardware, reducing operating and material costs
while also meeting those needs for increased reliability and security.
VirtualLogix delivers high-performance solutions for the
emerging mobile virtualization space. VLX for Mobile Handsets is VirtualLogix’s
real-time virtualization solution that is targeted at wireless devices. VLX for
Mobile Handsets brings high-level, open OSs,
such as Linux, into low-cost, high-volume feature phones by keeping the native implementation
of the wireless stack unchanged. It does this by running both Linux and the
real-time OS supporting the wireless stack concurrently on any ARM- or Intel-
based’ mobile processor. VLX for Mobile Handsets supports any type of real-time
OS/wireless stack combination thus allowing Linux to run on any feature phone using any
baseband chipset.
In addition, VLX for Mobile Handsets provides a secure,
fault-tolerant software architecture, which isolates and protects the core
phone services from software errors or potential malware that may occur in an
open environment. This capability preserves the minimum phone call
capabilities, while the complete handset services are being repaired and
restarted. VLX for Mobile Handset’s ability to create an open environment
enables a type of “mobility of applications,” on a shared hardware platform
that allows separate manufacturer, operator, content provider, enterprise and
user domains to co-exist and cooperate safely within a single device in a
trusted manner.
SYS-CON’s Virtualization
Journal’s “Readers’ Choice Awards”
SYS-CON's Virtualization Journal announced today its first
annual Virtualization
Readers' Choice Awards. SYS-CON's Readers' Choice Awards, also
known as the "Oscars
of the Software Industry" has been one of the most
prestigious industry award programs for more than a decade. This year's
virtualization awards will be given in 17 categories and award-winning products
and services will be selected by Virtualization Journal
readers.
Virtualization takes the cost and complexity out of IT, and can even help us
reduce the CO2 footprint. IDC has stated that the virtualization services
market alone is going to reach $11.7 billion by 2011 and in general this
technology, which has been around for a good number of years, seems suddenly to
be on everyone's mind.
In short, Virtualization is fast becoming a key requirement for every server in
the data center, enabling increased workloads in server consolidation projects,
efficient software development and testing, resource management for dynamic
data centers, application re-hosting and compatibility, and high-availability
partitions.
The tipping point, though - as anticipated by
industry experts already back in 2005 - seems to be coming in 2008.
